This is the family record of Noah’s sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and the children born to them after the flood.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
From these, the people of the seacoasts and islands spread out into their own lands, each group according to its own language, families, and nations.
The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
Cush was also the father of Nimrod, who grew to become the first mighty warrior on the earth.
He was a predatory warlord in defiance of The Self-Existent; that is why people say, “Like Nimrod, a predatory warlord in defiance of The Self-Existent.”
The core hubs of his empire were: Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
From that land he expanded into Assyria, where he built: Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
and Resen (the great city located between Nineveh and Calah).
Mizraim was the ancestor of: The Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorites.
Canaan was the father of: Sidon (his firstborn) and Heth,
as well as the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,
Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite families spread out even further,
until the borders of Canaan stretched from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, all the way to Lasha.
These are the descendants of Ham, listed by their families and languages, within their lands and nations.
Sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth and the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.
The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
Two sons were born to Eber: The name of the first was Peleg (Fracture), for in his lifespan the land was fractured; and his brother's name was Joktan.
Joktan was the father of: Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.
The territory they inhabited stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, into the eastern hill country.
These are the descendants of Shem, listed by their families and languages, within their lands and nations.
This concludes the families of Noah’s sons, listed according to their lineage histories, within their nations. From these, the nations spread out across the land after the flood.
