¹ Then The All-Powerful, Almighty One endowed Noah and his sons with the power of life and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the land.
² The fear and dread of you shall be upon every wild beast of the land, upon every winged creature of the skies, upon everything that crawls on the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are delivered into your hand.
³ Every moving creature that lives shall be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
⁴ Only you must not eat flesh with its life—that is, its blood.
⁵ And surely for your spilled blood I will require a reckoning; from every animal I will require it, and from man—from every man's brother—I will require the life of humanity.
⁶ Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall his blood be shed; for as the living monument of The All-Powerful, Almighty One He shaped humanity.
⁷ As for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the land and multiply upon it.
⁸ Then The All-Powerful, Almighty One spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
⁹ “Behold, I am establishing My agreement with you, and with your offspring after you,
¹⁰ and with every living soul that is with you: the winged creatures, the great livestock, and every wild beast of the land with you—all that exited the floating vessel, even every wild animal of the earth.
¹¹ I establish My agreement with you: never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, nor shall there ever again be a flood to ruin the land.”
¹² And The All-Powerful, Almighty One said, “This is the sign of the agreement that I am making between Me and you, and every living soul that is with you, for all future generations:
¹³ I have set My bow in the clouds, and it shall serve as a sign of the agreement between Me and the land.
¹⁴ When I gather clouds over the land and the bow becomes visible in the clouds,
¹⁵ I will remember My agreement that exists between Me and you and every living soul of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
¹⁶ When the bow is in the clouds, I will look upon it to remember the everlasting agreement between The All-Powerful, Almighty One and every living soul of all flesh that is upon the land.”
¹⁷ So The All-Powerful, Almighty One said to Noah, “This is the sign of the agreement that I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the land.”
¹⁸ The sons of Noah who exited the floating vessel were Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and Ham was the father of Canaan.
¹⁹ These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the population of the entire land spread out.
²⁰ Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.
²¹ He drank some of the wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered inside his tent.
²² Ham, the father of Canaan, exploited his father’s exposure and told his two brothers outside.
²³ But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it upon both their shoulders, and walked backward to cover their father’s exposed vulnerability; their faces were turned away so they did not witness their father’s shame.
²⁴ When Noah woke from his wine and learned what his youngest son had done to him,
²⁵ he said, “Disinherited and cursed is Canaan; a servant of servants he shall be to his brothers.”
²⁶ He also said, “Praised be The Sovereign, The Self-Existent, the Almighty One of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant.
²⁷ May The All-Powerful, Almighty One enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant.”
²⁸ Noah lived 350 years after the flood.
²⁹ So all the days of Noah were 950 years, and he died.
